Apple has just released iOS 17.5, the latest version of the iOS operating system.
This article will provide an overview of new features in iOS 17.5.
Download the application from the website (Only applicable in the EU)
iOS 17.5 supports web-based app distribution in the European Union, allowing developers to make apps available for download directly on their websites.
Similar to the changes in iOS 17.4 that added alternative app markets, this functionality is limited to iPhone and can only be used within the EU.
Despite not paying any commission to Apple, Apple still charges a 0.50 euro Core Technology Fee.
Apple News+
The Apple News+ news app now has an offline mode, providing access to news sources even without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
Apple News+ includes a new daily word game called Quartiles.
Players can view their statistics and achievements over time, similar to how The New York Times crossword puzzle works.
Third-party item tracking alerts
iOS 17.5 adds support for third-party item trackers, a feature Apple has been working on since last year.
Apple and Google have developed a cross-platform solution for unwanted tracking warnings.
Cross-platform tracking detection is designed to provide notifications to users if a compatible non-owned Bluetooth tracker is moving with them, regardless of the operating system the device is paired with
`Pride` Wallpaper
The `Pride` wallpaper is added by default for all iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5 and watchOS 10.5 users.
Repair status
iOS 17.5 includes a repair status option that allows the iPhone to be sent in for warranty without disabling Find My and Activation Lock.
The new `Erase this device` option in the Find My app puts the device into repair mode.
The repair status option allows Find My iPhone to remain on and the iPhone to remain trackable with the Find My app while being repaired.
Battery health for iPad
Some code changes in the iOS 17.5 beta reference the battery health feature on iPad, which may be available on the latest iPads (iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2).
The iPad’s `Battery Health` menu will likely show the maximum capacity remaining and the number of charges, similar to the Battery Health menu on the iPhone.
